William S. Lerner, FRSA

William S. Lerner is a Fellow at The RSA (Royal Society for the encouragement of Arts, Manufactures and Commerce). Fellowship of the Royal Society of Arts (FRSA) is an award granted to individuals that the Royal Society of Arts (RSA) judges to have made outstanding achievements to social progress and development. The award recognizes the contributions of exceptional individuals from across the world who have made significant contributions relating to the Arts, Manufacture and Commerce. Fellowship is only awarded to those who can demonstrate that they have made significant contributions to social change, and support the mission of the RSA. Fellows of the RSA are entitled to use the post-nominal letters FRSA.

Lerner is on six ANSI (American National Standards Institute) accredited U.S. Technical Advisory Groups (TAGs) for the International Organization for Standardization (ISO).

He is also an officially registered U.S. expert on eleven ISO Working Groups (WGs) in the hydrogen technologies sectors. Specific to Compressed Hydrogen Surface Vehicles (CHSVs), he is a participant on the Fuel Cell Interface Task Force for SAE International, the Society of Automotive Engineers. He is also on the SAE Technical Standards Task Force for Identifying Automated Driving System Dedicated Vehicles (ADS-DVs) User Issues for Persons with Disabilities.

He is a member of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers, the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics, the International Association of Advisors in Philanthropy, and is a Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts.

Lerner is an inventor who has been awarded with 14 U.S. patents in the consumer and industrial sectors. He is a globally published, peer-reviewed author for advances in light guide technologies, displays, fiber optics and sensors through the International Society for Optics and Photonics (SPIE). In 2017 he co-developed a proprietary, high power, compact LED automotive lighting system with RipDark, Ltd. in Shenzhen, China.

Lerner’s excessive temperature warning patents for glass-fronted gas fireplaces and gas ranges/cooktops have earned the attention of major appliance manufacturers, plus praise from many burn centers, hospitals, and The Harvard School of Public Health for a simple but effective approach to burn prevention and mitigation. Schott AG is an ongoing supporter of Lerner's pioneering work with fiber optics, and the implementation of their glass ceramic materials in the consumer, industrial, and military sectors. Lerner has worked directly with new product development and engineering teams at the following companies: United Technologies, General Electric, Siemens, Corning, Eurokera, Electrolux, Subzero/Wolf, Whirlpool, and Viking Range.

Lerner was the CEO and co-founder of Baz Persaud, Inc., a line of luxury, bespoke and handcrafted jewelry based in New York. Lerner led the company’s philanthropic endeavors with an array of charities. Their primary affiliation was with Cabrini Ministries, which oversees an orphanage in Swaziland. His passion for and extensive knowledge of luxury jewelry and watches make him a go-to expert who regularly contributes to horological publications.

Through January 2017, Lerner was the sole North American Brand Ambassador for Roberto Coin, Roberto Coin Cento diamonds, and Roberto Coin Privee Collection. Roberto Coin is Italy's largest jeweler, and the third-largest jeweler worldwide by volume. Among his many public engagements on behalf of the company, he regularly coordinated events like those noted on the below invitation.

In the late 1990s he served as Chief Restructuring Officer and VP for his family's coal and oil wholesale and retail business, positioning the company for its eventual sale within two years.
